Today's rant!!

I am no domestic goddess. Cleaning house is not something that I am very good at, nor have I historically put a lot of effort into it. I do the bare minimum of cleaning to get by. Maybe that's just the way I've always been, maybe it's because Kyle and I have never lived in a place nice enough to really care about, maybe because cleaning up after him is like having a full time job (sorry Buddy, it's ture!). Add the dogs into the mix and it's a recipe for things to always be a mess and that's where my complaining begins today. Dogs.

Since having Avery I feel like I've made much more of an effort to keep our place clean and sanitary for her. I'm cleaning the kitchen nonstop (with no dishwasher this sucks), I'm sweeping and mopping weekly, vaccuming, keeping the bathroom clean, constantly picking up clutter, and trying not to drown in never ending laundry (having to trek up and down three flights of stairs with baby in the bjorn to do laundry sucks). So needless to say it's a lot of work to keep up with the cleaning for me.

IT DOES NOT HELP WHEN YOU GET POOPED AND PEED ON, LITERALLY! Seriously, waking up to a pug pooping in your bed and coming out in the living room and seeing a wet pee mark from the bulldog is enraging when you're doing your best to keep things clean for your baby. I just don't know what to do because these dogs are driving me crazy. I am so happy Peyton doesn't sleep with us anymore, now I would give anything to get Grahm out of the bed. It's just gross (the pooping is not a rare thing, happens at least once a week). And I have to wash everything each time!!

I love my dogs, I love my dogs, I love my dogs. I keep trying to tell myself this even though in the back of my mind I just keep thinking that life would be so much simpler without them. I know we would never give them up, they've been part of our lives too long. What we really need is a change in living situation. They need a backyard. I need a washing machine. Sigh, one day.

  1. Hmmm...that's strange your dog is pooping on the bed, because usually animals will not "go" where they sleep. I honestly don't have any recommendations on what to do because I'm no dog expert. The only thing that worked for me when Kahlua was a puppy and did that, was I crate trained her at night. She'd usually whine at around 1 or 2 in the morning to go out, so I'd let her out, she'd do her business and I'd put her back in and she'd be good to go until morning. If they're in a crate they won't potty inside it - but it seems to me you may have a little stubborn pug exception on your hands. Have they always done this? I'm wondering if it's because of the new baby. But if not, I'm not sure Rach...hmmmm...

  2. The problem is that for five years we have treated our dogs like people, not pets. Now our world doesn't revolve around them anymore. They've actually adjusted to Avery pretty well, considering she steals the attention that used to go to them.

Unfortunately, our living situation is not conducive to having dogs. Living on the third floor in a one bedroom apartment, we are having trouble getting them outside to go potty. I can't physically take them and Avery out at the same time down the stairs and Kyle is often putting in 12-14 hour days, so he can't always help. I would give anything if we could go back and crate train them both. Our lives would be sooo much easier! We did not, and now there is no chance of it happening. We tried kicking Grahm out of the bed when we brough Avery home, he literally whined and barked at the door the ENTIRE night, never gave up. The three people in the house needed sleep, so we gave in! That's how stubborn he is. Be glad that Kahlua is crate trained, it will make your life much happier when you do bring your baby home :)

  3. I want a dog SOOO bad! But Kevin won't allow it right now because of your exact (minus baby) situation...one bedroom on the second floor. Reading this has helped me, for today:), realize Kevin is right:( I can not wait to move into a house with a yard...Kaysie is so lucky! We have many a conversation about what we are going to do when we move...two dogs, one little and one big as soon as we can. We know we will be going to the pound/shelter but we would love a bulldog and a toy terrier. Plan? Me? Never...haha! So Rach, I hope July comes fast but not too fast for Avery to be that grown, and that your new place will be what you are looking for! I wish I was closer so I could give you a break with Peyton and Grahm...I love them! Just keep breathing...hopefull this will work out soon!

  4. We have a house and a yard (a small one), but my husband (who grew up in the country) still doesn't think that is adequate enough. He says that dogs need room to run and that we can wait until we have 40 acres. :( Jocelyn would LOVE a dog! She is so cute with our friends' dogs. But, I guess it's okay that we don't have one because I suck at cleaning my house too, and I want to concentrate on babies for now. I think if I had to clean up after pets and a bunch of kids, I might just go crazy. So, my friend Melynda (who doesn't want kids anytime soon, but has a couple dogs) and I trade off getting our doggy fixes and baby fixes from each other. I like babies better, I have never had one poop in my bed! :)

  5. My one piece of advice when getting a dog is that no matter how much you love them, treat them like pets, disciple them, and have strong boundaries right from the beginning. Oh, and Breanna if you get a bully and want another dog as well you might want to get a male. The females have quite an alpha complex!

  6. Rach, if we get a bulldog you will be getting a phone call before it goes through! I try and remember everything you say about Peyton but you'll be the first call to make sure we are doing everything right:)
