It's been a while since I've posted and that is because we have been exceptionally busy in the last three weeks. The end of the semester came, Kyle's parents were in town to celebrate graduation, two days after they left we went to Charleston for a week to visit my parents. A day after we got back we flew to Kentucky (up and back in the same day) for a job interview and now we are leaving on Sunday for Maryland so that Kyle can interview for another job. This is getting crazy. The picture above just about sums up our last 10 days.
We are all ridiculously tired and seriously ready to make some decisions so that we can get on with our life. On the bright side, we are extremely lucky that Kyle has options and whether we end up in Kentucky or Maryland we will be very happy.
It's time to move on from this phase of our life. Temporary, graduate student living has been great, but it's time to move on. Should be exciting stuff happening in the next few weeks! Here are a few updates on Avery and some things I've learned from taking eight flights in 10 days!
*Avery turned seven months old, she is sitting really well on her own, she is pushing up and wants to crawl badly but is not quite there, she has seven teeth (they all just sprouted at once!!), she is babbling with lots of bah bah bahs and mah, mah, mahs, which is so fun to hear her voice!
*Changing a diaper of a squirmy baby in an airplane bathroom is really hard!
*The ground in the airport is dirty, but sometimes a baby needs to play. This is why you bring blankets and ignore the looks of disgust on other mother's faces.
*Workers at the Nashville airport were the friendliest people I've ever met at an airport.
*Random grandmotherly women will want to hold your baby...I usually said yes and stood right by their side.
*It's amazing how long a water bottle can distract a baby, easily buys you 10 minutes!
*I'm still trying to find a comfortable way to sleep while sitting up in the plane. Anybody have suggestions?
Also, we go to the hip doctor today for a checkup. Praying that all goes well!
I'll hopefully get to update this blog with definitive info on where we will be moving to by the end of next week. Until then we will be jetsetting and trying to make good decisions as a family :)
Where did Kyle interview in KY? UK? UofL? Other university? Good luck with the interviews/job search.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree that airplane bathrooms are one of the most difficult places to change diapers!
I'm so excited for you guys! Wherever you end up, I hope I can come visit when you are all settled in! xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting time in your lives! I love how you are so optimistic about the possibilities, instead of being anxious or worried about the unknown.
ReplyDeleteI let strangers hold my babies, too. I have been judged harshly for it, but I like to think that there aren't too many evil baby snatching 70+ year old women out there. ;) It's one thing to be cautious, and another to be completely paranoid that every stranger has bad intentions.
I'm glad your traveling went well. It's going to feel so good to get settled somewhere. I can't wait for that feeling (in like 10 years)!
Krista, he interviewed at Western Kentucky in Bowling Green. Nice little town and they are nuts about basketball so that would be fun. Sunday we go to College Park, Maryland to interview with the University of Maryland. ACC basketball, so that is enticing!
ReplyDeleteKaysie, we are always up for visitors!! We'd love for you to come out (I have a feeling Avery would adore you!)
Amy, I knew you would understand the strangers and holding her thing. It seems to make the "grandmother's" day when they get to squeeze her cheeks! Andy Avery does the same thing everytime...studies them for a minute and then makes a beeline for their jewelry! Ha, that's about the time they hand her back to me :)
Rachel - I can remember when a friend of mine, who was a little overprotective as a new mom, stopped going to church because she couldn't stand how everyone had to touch Isaac every time they got close. She was so paranoid that they were going to pass on some kind of bacteria or old age germ that she just stopped going...we still laugh about this from time to time. She gave up all hope of worrying about other people's germs when he turned all boy and started eating dirt, worms or anything else he could get his hands on!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for you guys and the possibilities that life has put in front of you! You know we are huge basketball fans, so I guess we'll have to start cheering for Western Kentucky or Maryland...I'm OK with that, but not sure I can convince Josh :) Keep us posted!
Mary
I've recently heard about how strangers will ask to hold other people's babies. I had no idea!
